"A Model for Increasing Native American Undergraduates' Interest in Food and Agriculture Science Careers."

2004 CSREES Higher Education Challenge Grant Program

The PATHWAYS Project used an experiential learning model for increasing Native American enrollment, retention, and career planning through agricultural science education. The Native American targeted population was undergraduates who were enrolled at New Mexico State University (NMSU). The program started in Fall 2004 and ran through the spring of 2006. PATHWAYS offered students the opportunity to work with food and agricultural scientists in the College of Agriculture and Home Economics (CAHE) for up to 25 months, 20 hours per week. Students experienced labratory agricultural research and "real world" exposure.
